(After this May 2nd Public Hearing, the next one will be on May 16, Tuesday, 6:30pm, Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, 600 S. McClelland St, 93454.)

The Santa Maria City Council voted 3-2 Tuesday, February 21, 2017, to begin the process of creating a district-based voting system in Santa Maria. The redistricting will change how its members are elected and will replace the current at-large voting system.  Board members have been chosen by the at-large voting system since the city was incorporated in 1905.  There will be several other council meetings to follow. The Santa Maria City Council meets every other Tuesday at 6:30 pm at 110 E. Cook St, 93454.

THE CITY COUNCIL ORGANIZATION
The City Council is comprised of five members, one (1) Mayor and four (4) Councilmembers. The Mayor and the four members of the City Council are elected for 4-year terms by the electorate. The Mayor presides at Council meetings and serves as the executive and ceremonial host of our city government.

The City Council also serves as the governing board of the Parking Authority, and the Housing Advisory and Appeals Board.
