Sunday, September 20, 2020:
Please attend a silent candlelight vigil this evening in Santa Maria, 6-7 p.m. at the Lewellen Justice Center, corner of S. Miller and E. Cook St. (masks and social distancing requested) to pay respects to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a leading liberal voice on the court who championed civil rights and became an icon. Justice Bader Ginsberg, born in 1933, died Friday, September 18, 2020, at 87.
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the unrelenting trailblazer for gender equality was the second-ever woman appointed to the high court.
The justice died at home in Washington, DC, surrounded by family, from complications of metastatic pancreatic cancer, the court announced.  Ginsburg revealed in July that she was undergoing chemotherapy for a recurrence of cancer. She had been previously treated for the disease four times.
